These are basic controllers designed to automate tasks with medium and low levels of complexity. The controllers are modular and completely universal. They are applicable for the construction of simple nodes of local automation or nodes of automated control systems connected with an intensive exchange of communication data via the industrial Ethernet / PROFINET network and via PtP (Point-to-Point) connections. Controllers can work in real time.

Structurally, all controllers of the series are made in plastic boxes, suitable for mounting on a DIN rail or directly on a mounting plate and have a degree of protection IP20. Compared to the previous S7-200 model, the S7-1200 controller is 35% more compact, and the pin configuration is the same as that of the S7-200. It can work in the temperature range from 0 to +50 degrees.

The device can serve from 10 to 284 discrete and from 2 to 51 analog I / O channels. Communication modules (CM), signal modules (SM), signal I / O boards of digital and analog signals (SB), as well as technology modules can be connected to the central processor of the controller. Together with them, a power supply module (PM 1207) and a four-channel Industrial Ethernet switch (CSM 1277) are used.
