Where and how to look for leakage current when an RCD trips

In the home electrical network, there are sometimes hidden defects that do not appear immediately.
1. If all appliances are turned off in the apartment and the lights are turned off, and the meter continues to register the current flow. it indicates that the isolation is broken in the home network.
2. If electrical appliances (dryer, electric stove, vacuum cleaner, etc.) do not work when connected to outlets, it means that the devices or the outlet are damaged. You can also check if the contact is damaged. using a test lamp or tester.
3. After turning off the mains voltage, you can start troubleshooting. Output damage can be checked using a pilot light. The voltage is supplied to the network for a short time and, by inserting the plug into the outlet, you can see if the lamp lights up.
Malfunctions in wiring can be the result of a whole chain of causes and their consequences.
For example:
a) Due to the weakening of the contact clamp in the socket of the power cable of the electric stove.
b) The ends of the wires closed, and the fuses burned out - for this reason the chandelier went out;
however, the chandelier can go out if the bulb burns out, and the fuse can go out for some other reason.
4. First, you need to replace the fuses or reactivate the automatic protection of the incoming electrical panel. If protection is triggered unexpectedly and for no reason, then you will need to turn off all devices and only then turn on the protection devices. On re-shutdown, the fault will have to be looked for in the electrical wiring.
5. Broken wires with hidden wiring are very rare. They usually occur in the form of bends in single-core wires repeatedly bent in one place.
For example:
a) On loose contacts and switches.
b) In the place where the wires exit the ceiling channel near the chandelier (due to its frequent swinging when dusting or changing lamps).
6. To detect a malfunction in the wiring, you can act according to the distribution method from the general scheme of suspicious areas based on manifested effects and the causes that could cause them. Wherein the priority check should be that which is checked by simple means.
It must be remembered that the repair of damaged electrical appliances and electrical wiring must be carried out only with the voltage turned off.
