Jack of all trades or how to change the wiring yourself?

Jack of all trades or how to change the wiring yourself?Since we all live in modern houses with a huge number of electrical appliances, it would be nice to know how to replace old electrical wires if necessary.
Advantages of replacing electrical wires do it yourself that, firstly, you save a lot of money, and secondly, you will be able to determine the places of the proposed contacts yourself, depending on where you will have electrical appliances, and thirdly, you will not worry about protecting your furniture from dust or dirt.
To do electrical work yourself, you must first familiarize yourself with some concepts related to electrical wiring:

  • a distribution box is a round plastic box that is mounted in the wall and serves to distribute electricity to several switches or outlets;
  • installation box — another round plastic box in which sockets and switches are installed;
  • Grooves are channels in the wall for running wires.

The next step will be the preparation of materials and tools necessary for work. You will need a grinder to make channels on the walls; an electric drill with special attachments for drilling holes in the walls (only if you are going to change the location of the contacts and / or switches); pliers and pliers with insulating handles; as well as wires, junction boxes and junction boxes.
The replacement of the electrical wiring in the apartment is carried out from the farthest room to the corridor, where the distribution box is located, which is responsible for the flow of electricity to your apartment.

When replacing the electrical wiring, it is not necessary to change the electricity meter at all, since it is a rather long-term device without special tricks.
To begin, you must first mark the wiring and determine the location of the contacts and switches. A marker is used for marking.
Next, the cross-sectional dimensions of the cable must be determined. To do this, you need to understand the wattage of each electrical device you install. All electrical appliances must be divided into groups and determine where the most powerful appliances will be located in the room (washing machines, boilers, etc.).
When replacing electrical wiring, removing the old wiring is quite problematic, so it is easier to just disconnect it from the voltage and put a new one next to it.
To replace the wiring in all rooms, the entire apartment must be disconnected from the voltage.Next, find the junction box where all the cables are located, including the one that supplies electricity to the room. Cables should be freed from insulation, and the bare ends of the wires should be taken as far apart as possible. Then connect the electricity to the apartment and with the help of an LED screwdriver determine the phase wire of the main cable and remember its color. This is required to install the switches.
After that, it is necessary to turn off the apartment again, insulate the bare ends of the main cable and cut the remaining ends. Make grooves in the walls, put the wire there and lead it to the distribution box. Then again turn off the electricity in the apartment and combine the main cable with the wires going to the switches and sockets using plastic terminal boxes.
After changing the wiring in one room, you can proceed to the next one, following the same principle.
