Advantages of diesel generator
A sudden power outage is always very frustrating. It is good if this threatens only with unsaved files on the computer and the inability to drink tea. The cost of an accidental power outage can be human life.
To date, systems have been developed to provide autonomous uninterrupted power supply. The simplest of them are UPS, capable of maintaining the network voltage for several tens of minutes after a power failure, which helps either to calmly finish work and turn off the devices, or to switch to an autonomous power source. Diesel power plants or diesel generators are used as such a source.
There are stand-alone generator models that run on gas or gasoline. But diesel generators, firstly, are much more economical, secondly, more durable and, thirdly, much cheaper to maintain. The most important advantage of diesel generators is their power: gasoline models do not generate more than 9-15 kilowatts, while diesel generators can reach 2000 kilowatts.
When choosing a diesel generator, you must first decide on the power. To do this, you need to calculate the sum of the energy consumption of all those devices that you will supply from the generator and add a little more. Then tackle the engine and generator.
Generators are divided into asynchronous and synchronous. If you only need to keep the lights on in the house, you can buy an asynchronous generator. Its main advantage is its low price; in all other parameters, it is seriously inferior to synchronous, which is not afraid of overload and produces high-quality current, suitable for both a computer network and serious medical equipment.
Air-cooled diesel engines are the most viable option for keeping a small cottage or office alive. Their capacity is from 6 to 30 kilowatts, the average time between failures is up to 5000 hours. Liquid-cooled diesel engines are designed for industrial use. They come in low and high speed. Low-speed ones have many advantages — they can work for a long time without interruption, have a longer resource and lower fuel consumption. But there are also disadvantages - in terms of weight, dimensions and price, they are inferior to high-speed ones.
Regardless of the type of generator you choose, purchasing it will be an investment that can prevent major losses.
